Tufts College Applicants On YouTube

Google, Amazon, Facebook, TwitterSwaptree and thousands of sites have transformed how we search, find, connect, communicate, buy and swap on the Internet.  YouTube has also gained incredible traction as a platform to syndicate video content.

In an interesting twist on the use of the Internet in an old fashioned application process, Tufts University this year has become the first selective college in the nation to encourage applicants to submit videos about themselves.  More than 1,000 high school seniors have included one-minute video essays in their bids for a spot in the Class of 2014.

This is a very creative use of YouTube to allow an applicant to be able to add more dimension to their candidacy to attend Tufts.  The world is becoming ever more interconnected and the use of this type of technology on an independent basis is another indicator the applicants prowess using the integration of technology as a tool.

Across the board the Internet is enabling social interaction.  Adding comments to photos or posts has been prevalent with Internet communities for a long time but Facebook has really brought this out across its massive user base.

The Tufts YouTube videos are demonstrating that the Internet is not a one way channel.  With the openness of the Internet, the application videos posted to YouTube are generating a following among Tufts students and alumni who are posting comments campaigning for their favorites.  This is a great display of the Tufts Community.

What an innovative use of the Internet for a practical purpose that is extending their community into the old fashioned and traditionally buttoned up application process.

Bravo Tufts!
