Today Is Delurker Day 2010
This is a global movement of bloggers to promote to their readers that they love
the visit to their blog (lurking) but they would love the visit and a comment.
From Wikipedia, the definition of a lurker: In Internet culture, a lurker is a person who reads discussions on a message board, newsgroup, chatroom, file sharing or other interactive system, but rarely or never participates actively. Research indicates that “lurkers make up over 90% of online groups” (Nonnecke & Preece 2000).
So this global celebration and invitation to readers of this blog and others to please drop a comment. Comments add depth and life to the blog.
I syndicate my blog through RSS, Facebook, Twitter and other friendly sites. I get comments here but my comments tend to be distributed here and throughout the syndication. Commenting here or anywhere is cool to me.
For my part I am going to drop a comment on every blog in my “blog roll” to the right of this post. Happy Delurking Day 2010.

[...] So take a minute to drop a line and join our conversation! We’ll all be glad you came. (A tip of the hat to Jeff Bennett for pointing me to this campaign) [...]

Great campaign! I’ve taken the plunge as well.
Like so many, I find time constraints make it very hard for me to keep up on commenting at the blogs I read regularly. Perhaps it’s the Twitter Effect or perhaps maybe just a function of the times, but it’s important to provide feedback to the blogs that are important to us.
Keep up the great work!

Jeff,
I applaud you for initiating this movement. I do think it’s an uphill battle though. It’s human nature for people to “lurk.” But, those of who are active in the blogosphere should be more interactive.
Keep the good content coming and you’ll get more interaction and less lurking.
Thanks for your leadership on this!

Thanks Bernie. I love your work. It is an uphill battle. I have managed web communities for a long time. 90/10 has been the rule with 10 percent of the members creating all of the content. It is good content for all to share. It is a worthy cause. Thanks for weighing in.
