Apple Goes Quattro

Quattro Wireless, the Waltham Mass-based wireless ad network, announced that has been acquired by Apple.   Quattro CEO Andy Miller made the annoucement on the company blog today.

I have watched Andy build Quattro over the last few years.  Wireless is booming and the Quattro team did a great job thus far building a network of publishers and advertisers.   Andy is a good colleague in the New England business community.  As an entrepreneur Andy has been working diligently to build Quattro and active in the community working with other entrepreneurs and through his work with MITX and other organizations.  Andy will stay on with Apple as Vice President of Wireless Advertising.

This is the second deal from Apple in the last month, following hot on the heals of the La La acquisition that I posted about.

Apple is bolstering their market leading service and platform in several key areas as they face increased competition from Google, Palm, Microsoft, Nokia and others.  It will be interesting to see what they do next.

I have been an early adopter of the iPhone and use hundreds of apps.  I have even posted to this blog from the iPhone.  This led me to become a Mac convert too.  I am delighted at this news for Andy, the Quattro team and their investors @ Highland Capital Partners.  I am delighted as a consumer too.

Congrats to Quattro and Apple!
