Hess Rolls Out 2009 Truck…It Is A Race Car

Hess has been marketing a toy truck, or on occasion toy car, in their gas stations for the holiday season since 1964.  This has become a holiday tradition, and is one of the longest running toy brands on the market.  This week they have announced the 2009 Hess toy truck and it is a race car!

Hess_RaceCar225This has been a special treat in my family for years.  Grammy (and Grampy while was with us) have purchased the truck for my children and their other grand children…and now great grand children.  This years model looks to be a pretty cool race car so I am sure that the kids will all enjoy it.  I can’t wait myself.

Not since 1993 has the Hess Toy Truck featured a car, when the Patrol Car was first introduced and went on to become the fastest selling Hess Toy Truck ever. The 2009 Hess Race Car and Racer goes on sale Friday, November 13, at participating Hess and Hess Express retail stores, retailing for $24.99 plus tax, Energizer batteries included.

As in past years, the truck will be sold exclusively at Hess retail stores in 16 East Coast states while supplies last.  For a complete list of Hess Toy Trucks through the years or to find the nearest Hess location, visit www.hesstoytruck.com. I posted about the Hess Toy truck last year and it was one of my most trafficked posts in the last year.  I guess it is not just a Bennett family tradition.  Let us all know your tradition,  memories and current stories of the Hess Truck in the comments below.

  • I remember looking forward to the Hess trucks each year growing up. There weren’t any Hess stations in the Plymouth, MA area where I grew up till recently so it was always a treat I would get from my grandmother who lived in NJ. Glad to see the tradition is still going in many families.

  • Thanks Dan P. for the comment. This is a great tradition. I remember years back there were no stations in the Boston area. Hess was big in NY/NJ…still is. Hess has really expanded now up in the Boston area. It has allowed them to expand this very cool tradition as well.

  • I was cleaning out my parent’s attic last year, and came across my old Hess truck. It was a tanker truck, and the lights still worked! My son’s too old for it now, but I put it aside to hopefully give it to my grand kid someday. Not sure I ever bought gas at a Hess station, but I can’t drive by one without thinking of Christmas.

  • Thanks for the comment Ted. You are never too old for a Hess Truck. We have a number of the old classics that still work too. Amazing to see the detail on the new trucks and the fact that they all come with lights and all. Tis the season!

  • My uncle has given me the yearly hess truck for christmas every years since 1995. I now have 14 trucks!

  • Rob – thanks for the response – our family just got the 2009 edition today from Grammy – two in one! Great stuff.

  • Great article as usual, thanks for posting such helpful content on a regular basis.
