RunMyErrand Raises $1 Million
RunMyErrand is a very interesting venture serving an unmet need, offering an online clearinghouse where busy people can recruit temporary helpers to complete tasks around town.
Founder Leah Busque has been hustling to prove the the business concept working out of the ZipCar offices in Cambridge. Looks like the proof point might be coming along nicely as it is reported that two west coast venture firms have stepped up to invest $1 million into RunMyErrand. Baseline, in San Francisco, and Maples, in Menlo Park, CA, are the two investors and both firms have prominent Web 2.0 and social networking startups such as Twitter and Digg in their portfolios. The new funds will help RunMyErrand build its staff and expand operations in Boston and open up shop in San Francisco.
Congrats to Leah – this is great news!

Real nice… simple and useful service, a very practical use of social networking techniques and community building. This is a super feel good service that has bounce, with the potential of helping out people in need on both sides of the transaction. Likely a vision of the founders… you can imagine that energetic people involved in running errands for others may also be encouraged into helping local charities pro bono along the way… win, win, win!!!

Thansk for the comment…you are right JQB. There have been niche services around dog walking and other things. RunMyErrand looks at all needs. They are doing a great job leveraging buzz and social media marketing to get the word out as well…hence the partners they linked up with for the financing. Very cool.
