Happy Birthday Daily Grommet

The Daily Grommet is a site that I learned about earlier this year.  I really liked their approach to discovering new products, letting the product developer/merchant tell their story with the Daily Grommet team adding their views and facilitating the purchase.  Add in the most contemporary social media tools to allow all of us to add to the story and share it with our respective friends on our blogs, Twitter, Facebook or really any site, and you have have a pretty cool social commerce offering.  I have posted about Daily Grommet a few times to let all of you know more about it, first as a “cool site,” and most recently on the launch of their new site. I am a big fan.

Daily Grommet has been discovered themselves in the last year by many customers and have been featured in many news and interest stories.  In one of the numerous articles, interviews, blog posts and tweets, Wade Roush wrote a wonderful post for Xconomy. As Wade wrote:  “the Daily Grommet has a common-sense business model that blends old-fashioned retailing with the best of Web 2.0-style interactivity.”  I agree.

These are challenging times that we live in today.  They say starting a company in an economic downturn is ideal.  Well for some reasons that might be the case for sure.  This downturn has been particularly difficult on investor confidence and credit availability making starting a business all the more challenging.  Daily Grommet lanched themselves last Fall as the world as we knew it was going to hell.  Despite this and all the challenges associated with building a company last week Daily Grommet turned one.  This is a great accomplishment by a talented and fearless team.  Congrats to Jules Pieri and everyone who has helped to launch Daily Grommet…Happy Birthday!
