Mobile Apps Usage On Rise
Interesting article in the New York Times today regarding mobile applications. The article cites some new research from a Chicago firm called Gravity Tank about current usage of apps and buying criteria for smart phones.
I can say that I did not buy the iPhone for the apps…there were none in July 2007. I am sure a buyer and user of the apps today though. This seems to be consistent with the purchase rational in the survey. Some amazing stats coming from this research from respondents:
- downloaded an average of 23.6 applications to their phone and use an average of 6.8 apps every day;
-half of smart phone owners report shopping for apps more than once a week;
- half report using apps on their phone for more than 30 minutes a day;
We still live in a 24-hour day, so smart phone users must be shifting their usage from other ways to spend their time. Survey highlights smart phone users are reducing their usage of portable gaming devices, MP3 players and GPS devices. Smart phone users are also reducing the amount of time spent on reading newspapers or watching television.
It all makes sense to me.
