Patriots Day 2009: Big Day For Boston

It is the Eve of Patriot’s Day.  To most of the world this does not mean that much but if you are a Bostonian it means many things.  First off it was tonight that Paul Revere and William Dawes made their famous horseback rides from Boston to the country towns of Lexington and Concord to warn of the British coming ashore.  This kicked off the battle of the American Revolution with the Battle at Lexington Greene and the Concord Bridge.  In these modern times all of this will be reenacted tonight and tomorrow.  A big parade in Lexington will celebrate our independence as well.

The history is alot but tomorrow brings many other events in Boston as well…such as the Marathon.  Tomorrow 25,ooo runners will depart ron-trevor-boston-marathon-2009Hopkinton for the 26 mile run into Boston for the 113th running of the Boston Marathon.  This is a global event and the town is buzzing with visitors from every corner of our earth.  I have been to many Boston Marathon’s and each has been special.  Tomorrow is even more special as my nephew Ron Bialobrzeski and our friend Trevor Dean will be running together (added this picture taken by Jon Hebert of the boys just before the Finish line).  We are all proud of the their training and courage for running this race.

There is more as the Bruins face their rival Montreal Canadiens in Montreal for game 2 of their Stanley Cup playoff, the Boston Celtics will be hosting the Chicago Bulls for game 2 of their playoff and the Boston Red Sox will be hosting the Baltimore Orioles in their traditional Patriots Day game.

I for one will be taking in the Red Sox with my family.  With the traditional 11 am start for the Red Sox game, it is easy to go to both the Red Sox and Marathon.  The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) that runs the Boston Marathon are using some great technology so we will be able to track Ron’s and Trevor’s progress through text messages.  I bet that just after “Sweet Caroline” blairs in the eighth inning we will head out to Kenmore Square to see Ron and Trevor drive to the finish line.

This is quite a line up of events for Boston tomorrow.

Best of luck to Ron, Trevor and all of the other runers tomorrow!
