Curt Shilling Social Media Man Retires
Curt Shilling retired from Baseball today. Shilling was one of the best big game pitchers that has played the game and helped the Arizona Diamondbacks and Boston Red Sox to World Series titles. Shilling won 11 games and lost only 2 in 19 layoff games. Shilling also won over 200 games in his twenty plus seasons.
There are many things to remember about Shilling’s time with the Red Sox: the big games, the bloody sock, the two titles. All of these combined bring Curt Shilling to Boston Sports legend status. To me there is much more to the story though. I remember his entry to Boston with Theo Epstein and the Boston Red Sox ownership stalking Shilling over Thanksgiving Weekend. What was particularly interesting was that Shilling was also communicating with some of the most die hard and knowledgeable Red Sox fans online, the members of the online sports community SonsOfSamHorn.Com (SOSH). If you ask me this is where the legend of Curt Shilling started in Boston.
Curt has continued this social media activity through his career and has been very active on his 38 Pitches Blog. In fact it was the 38 Pitches blog where Shilling announced his retirement today. I have always liked to watch Shilling compete because he played to win. I have also like to read what Shilling had to say through the web as well. I have had 38 Pithces on my Blogroll since I started JeffBennett.org. Curt was a social media man before it was in vogue and this continues.
Thanks for all you brought to the Red Sox Nation Curt!
