CafeMom and RazorFish has released a new report on how Moms are iteracting and using social media at the South By Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas this week.

The CafeMom survey interviewed 1,500 moms who used a number of digital technologies. Among the findings: more of these “digital moms” interact with social networks (65%) and text message (56%), than use traditional news sites (51%). Interestingly, more than half of the moms were also playing videogames.

  • Jeff; thanks for linking to this report – very important info. I must say, their data and results don’t map to the anecdotal evidence I see in my work with parents of teenagers. There are many parents out there with teens who don’t participate in the online world nearly enough. It scares me because the result is their teens don’t get the guidance they need. There is a huge technology gap between some parents of teens and their kids; this seems to be less true with the parents of younger kids, though. But those of us who work and thrive in the online world need to remember there are still many who haven’t yet gotten fully onboard.

  • You are so right Sue. The technology and social media is moving very fast so it compounds the gap that you refer to. The CafeMom report is good to see. We need more like this. We also need more active parents like you playing an activist roll and sharing your experiences. I admire your work with your popular blog and websites (http://www.PleaseStoptheRollercoaster.com and http://www.ParentingTeensInfo.com). These sites are great and feature all sorts of valuable content including free parenting articles, podcasts, tips and newsletters. Great stuff.
