Kindle’s Value to Amazon

I am a tech junkie who has purchased most gadgets. I tire of most of these devices quickly. The two gadgets that have captured my attention have been Apple’s iPod Amazon’s Kindle.

Sure I have had my issues with iPod’s batteries but the product has elegant since day one and getting better all the time. No issues with multiple vendors, files and operating systems. This led me to buy the iPhone on it’s release which I loved. Once Apple allowed support of Microsoft Exchange the iPhone has become my device for almost everyting. The growing number of very functional apps is extending my use of the iPhone to new levels.

The Amazon Kindle has preocouppied my attention as well. It’s design is sleek. It’s interface is simple. The functionality for downloading is seamless. The catalogue of books, magazines and newspapers is expanding nicely. Everyone asks dont you prefer the flipping a paper book to the button of the Kindle? My response is a resounding no. The Kindle is taking hold in the social media circles as well with a group coming together to form KindleBoards.Com for discussing and sharing experiences on the Kindle. Kindle is on a roll.

Amazon reported it’s best Christmas in fourteen years. This is great news amidst all of the gloom and doom about the economy. The drivers to this successful Christmas are consumers shopping online due to severe weather across the country and the Nintendo Wii having a big impact. The Kindle did contribute nicely as it was sold out early in the season.

The New York Times has posted about the perceived value of the Kindle to Amazon. People will speculate that this perceived value is overblown. Maybe so but look at the transformational impact of the iPod and now iPhone on Apple. You have to share the leap of faith about the future of Kindle and I for one am a believer. Read on as this is a good article.
