IAC’s HealthCentral Acquires Wellsphere

IAC-backed HealthCentral has acquired fellow health and wellness-focused network Wellsphere.
Though HealthCentral says the acquisition bumps up its reach to about 10 million monthly uniques. It appears that this deal was for more than vertical reach. The Wellsphere site serves up categorized blog posts, articles from sources like the FDA, images and videos. The company runs Wellphone, a mobile service with local search listings; users can also set up SMS alerts for things like medication dosing schedules or personal training appointments.
This looks like a very good extension of HealthCentral.

Have you seen the controversy among bloggers about this acquisition? I wrote a story on my blog that rounds up some of the stories. Definitely an interesting read, since HCN thought it was getting a strong community of bloggers.
